DongFeng Motor • Wuhan Open 2016 wound up

On October 1, 2016, the ninth and last day of DongFeng Motor • Wuhan Open 2016, through intense competition, Petra Kvitova picked up her second Wuhan Open singles title; and Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Lucie Safarova claimed the doubles title.

In the women's singles final, favorite Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion and the winner of the 1st Wuhan Open, continued her good form and revenged herself on 10th-seeded Slovakian "pocket rocket"-Dominika Cibulkova 6-1, 6-1, to regain the singles title two years later, netting 471,700 US dollars and 900 ranking points. This was also her first title this season. In the women's doubles final, new US Open championship Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Lucie Safarova overcame third-seeded Sania Mirza/Barbora Strycova 6-1, 6-4 to claim their first Wuhan Open doubles title, qualifying for WTA Finals Singapore with the victory.
